đ„Results before Profitđ„
Hi ,
We all know that profit should come first in any business, but before we can think about profit, we should focus on results.
I believe results come 1st and profit comes 2nd. The results youâre after can be for anything - How to test a new insert card idea, a new photography agency, a better listing copy, etc.
The basic idea is simple:
I want to get the best results possible, so Iâll spend the most I can afford to, on the best possible solution. If that solution wonât work, Iâll need to rethink my entire strategy, instead of wasting valuable time.
For example, hereâs how most sellers do something:
âI need to re-do my images.. let me find someone on Fiverr who can take my existing images and improve them across my 10 different Parent listings.â
The freelancer sends you the new images, but the conversion rate goes down instead of up and youâre losing market share. The seller thinks:
âOh, well, that didnât work.. let me find an agency that can help me out with this.â
You reach out to the different agencies, and you choose the one thatâs average priced, with work that seems to be good enough.
Your conversion rate goes up, CTR goes up, sales go up, and everything seems right in the world.
But is it?
Or can you do better?
And in a shorter time with fewer resources spent?
I believe the following: You should spend the most there is to spend to get the best results possible.
Here are the steps, using the same example of a photography agency:
Find the top agencies based on Google, other seller recommendations, etc.
Give 2 different agencies one product to work on so youâll be able to compare them to one another. If you want to go the extra mile - Give both the same product.
Run A/B testing using different software or Amazonâs A/B test feature to see what works best.
Now that you got your results, itâs time to maximize your profit
Either continue with that agency on the rest of the products, send their work to a cheaper but qualified agency and ask for the same level if possible, or bring it in-house after you know what youâre looking for.
When it comes to insert cards - Always overdo it. Go over the top with whatever it is you offer, use an expensive card or even one that has a built-in video. Theinsert card might cost $0.5-$1 or even more, but if that doesnât get you leads, youâll need to completely change your strategy. If it does work and you get a lot of leads, you can always dial it down and try to save on cost and see if you get the same result.
Start with the result first, profit second.

P.S
The best way to test insert cards is what I call the A/B/C test - Testing 3 different inserts for the first shipment. Testing inserts take a long time, so itâs best to test multiple and see which works best by tracking how many follow-up the link or offer youâre providing them with.
