8 Figure Brand Idea - Lego Storage

An 8-figure brand idea - Take it

Hey there ,In my last email, I mentioned to you how I gift my kids and how much my son and I enjoy playing together with Legos. That got me thinking, how are we going to store it all? And is there a possibility to build an 8-figure brand in the process?

There are tons of solutions out there to store Lego, but mostly for Lego pieces, and not for complete sets. There are those AFOLs (Adult Fans of Lego), who use up an entire room or garage to store a huge city, but mostly, parents are frustrated with their kids filling up their entire room floor with Lego (not to mention the pain when stepping on it).Just by looking at the search volume for Lego storage, you can see the need for a solution.

That got me to look for a solution of storage for completed sets, that can be used in a small space. I looked for a few hours online but came up with nothing. There are a lot of different table designs, but each of those is taking up a lot of space. There were also some smart shelf solutions, but you can’t build your Lego city on it.The other issue is that Lego collects a lot of dust unless it's in acrylic boxes or in a glass display closet. The main storage solutions that are selling on Amazon, are just for the pieces themselves. Such as these types of bags:This got me thinking of an old product idea I saw, which is shelves that turn into a table. There are a bunch of them so should be easy to find a supplier for, something like this:Now, a standard lego baseplate is 32x32 cm. These are the basic baseplates that you grew up on:My idea is this - What if I developed a table that each shelf that is 32x96 cm with 5 levels? That could hold 15 baseplates of Lego while taking up space of the size of 3. You can then use it as shelves when not playing with your city, or pull it down to display your city and play with it. That way, it could potentially be stored either in the living room or even in the kid's room if it's big enough. In terms of variations, that could almost be endless in what can be done. The only thing it doesn't solve is having a Lego train in your city, but that shouldn't be a big issue since most don't have those anyway. When looking at a new brand, I try to think of possible expansions of the same product, by thinking of variations/new listings that can be created around similar keywords, while upselling existing customers as well as selling more-of-the-same things to improve conversion rate.Variation Idea 1 - Colors - This is obvious. Just making different color shelves/tables to answer more home decor needs.Variation Idea 2 - Size - Again, obvious. The size could be a double shelf with 34cm depth, or by having more space between each level, or more space levels. Having more space between the levels, or having them adjusted by height, could allow customers to have taller sets on one shelf and shorter sets on other shelves. In case we'll do that, the table will have a gap when lowering it between the shelves as in the picture below, and then it will need to be pushed from both sides to be closed. This will be a more complex development, but doable.Variation Idea 3 - Closet - To avoid collected dust, a variation can also be a closed closet, with two doors, and shelves inside. When you open the doors you can pull down the shelves that will turn into the lego city table. The doors can be standard, transparent, or if you want something really fancy, develop a mirrored closet: Variation Idea 3 - Minifigures - You could even add more variations, by adding Minifigure displays on the inside of the closet. Either as built-in to variations or as something you can add after buying a closet. Minifigures are a huge part of any serious collector:IP Issue - There are obvious IP infringements that can happen if only Lego is targeted. Another thing that this closet/table can be used for, is massive puzzles. There are puzzle fanatics out there solving 10,000 or even 50,000 pieces of puzzles. That can take them days or weeks to complete, and probably take up a lot of space on a large dining table. There are also "puzzle tables", that usually can't hold much. Here are some of the current solutions:Once completed, most of these larger puzzles get framed and hung on a wall for display, so the issue is only in assembling those puzzles. The table-to-shelf can be easily marketed for that as well.In the day-to-day, these shelves can be used for different things. When working on big puzzles, whatever is on the shelves can be placed somewhere else while completing the puzzle.By targeting multiple uses of the product, it's a lot easier to go over any potential IP issues. This is also what's currently happening with most products being sold in the "Lego Storage" niche.Launching this brand shouldn't be too difficult either. There are tons of influencers that can be reached out to on YouTube, who are getting millions of views in a short period of time and are probably easy to partner up with on such a project. I'll also bet this brand can do well outside of Amazon on a Shopify store by targeting Lego fans, which should be very easy to do.If you've read this far, you're probably wondering why I'm telling you all of this. I really believe this can be an 8-figure brand just by launching the main product with a few of the variations mentioned. So, what's the catch? You see, Lego is a hobby I enjoy with my kids. It's fine to want to build brands around your hobbies, but you should always have some hobbies left. If everything you enjoy doing will become a P&L sheet, you might end up losing your passion for it. You should enjoy what you're doing as your main source of income, but if everything you do has a profit line, where does it end?I think that's just how we think as entrepreneurs. We see a problem and we HAVE TO find a solution for it. We all have lots of ideas we think of ourselves, or potential partnerships and offers come to us every day. By saying no to 99% of those ideas and offers, we choose the 1% we actually want to do the most.If any of you do develop this product, please let me know. I'll be your first customer, and promise to leave a raving review ;)Are you interested to see how I can help you grow your own brand on Amazon?
